I've been with Optimum for years. Last year I was suddenly hiked up to $125 per month. I was told that was the normal rate and I had been on a discounted rate.

The past 2 months, it suddenly jumps up to $175 per month. I'm told I'm now on a preferred package. I didn't ask for this change. None of my channels changed.

I called today and asked why the sudden hike. They tell me that I had been on a discounted rate (again) and that's the normal price. They offered to put me back down to basic at $125 per month, but they've taken away most of my channels. The only 2 I watch are the Travel Channel and Hallmark. They're both gone and apparently not included in the basic package.

On top of that, my internet sucks. It constantly cuts off. I've written numerous times and no-one ever responds. I do a lot of work from home and I'm constantly losing work because the internet keeps disconnecting. All of these networks suddenly appeared on my list of available networks and I find it very difficult to get on now and stay connected.

We can't get Verizon here yet because there is no Fios and my landlord doesn't want a disc on the roof. I feel that Optimum are taking advantage because they have the monopoly.

Reason of review: Most of the above!.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Optimum Cons: Lack of responsiveness, Lousy channel line-up, Monopolistic practices, Ridiculous speeds, Poor customer service.

I totally agree Optimum sucks. My bill is $249.

I was supposed to have the best package and a few years ago I added the Red Zone my bill went up and last year I noticed I did not have Red Zone any more (my bill was not reduced) I called up and was told my package no longer includes red zone and if I want it I will have to pay additional . Same thing with Cinemax they took it away with no reduction and if you want it again you have to pay more .

This is a great SCAM for Optimum and they get away with it because they are a virtual monopoly here. There should be some regulations put on these thieves.

We experience outages or unstable internet transmission on a monthly basis. Last week, the internet was unstable for days.

When we called customer service, they first claimed that there is no outage and so the problem is on our side. When we called again, they claimed that they are upgrading their servers and things the service would be resumed in two hours. That did not happen. When we called again, they claimed that because there is no outage in the area, the problem must be with our modem.

Regardless of how many times we called, they refused address the problem or send someone over to test the cables in our area. We know that it is not our modem that is causing the outage because our neighbors with Optimum have the same problem too. Since we paid for the service and the company choose not to deliver the product and support, we decided to cancel our subscription. We were told that they will not refund the month's fee they just deducted from our account.

For canceling our account, they punish us by holding us hostage for a month. What is horrible company.

Do not ever sign up for any service with them! Protect yourself as a consumer.

My download times are over 3 HOURS!!! too much...

also, I was using bit torrent, and the download time for a .torrent file was 1yr 2w. which is, 1 YEAR and 2 WEEKS! what!? I hate optimum.

they basically make you pay for NOTHING at all. when optimum is your only choice for internet the place you live in, it might be better to choose no choice at all.

I agree. My internet has been an issue for years.

I recently switched to Ultra 50. It didn't solve the problem. Optimum is a broken record. They keep telling me, the problem is my router.

Well I have purchased FOUR brand new routers in the past year. My internet still has the same problem, and Optimum is still claiming it's my router. I tell them ALL FOUR NEW ROUTERS can't be bad. Doesn't do any good because like you, Optimum is the only choice.

They hold you hostag if you need the internet.

I reported an issue with my phone service LAST SUMMER (6/14). They still have not corrected that issue. I told them about it again last month. I might as well talk to a brick wall.

I had an issue with their voicemail.

I set it to pick up at 6 rings. It was picking up in 3. Customer service was no help. I went back to my answering machine.

I called customer service and told gave them two time frames to contact me. I get a call AT THEIR CONVENIENCE. I send them a few emails. Evidently no one understands English.

I finally get fed up and tell them don't bother to call, I'm filing a complaint against them and suddenly they care. I refuse to talk to them now. The last man that called left a message that I was using an answering machine evidently trying to tell me that was why voicemail was not working.

Had he read any of my emails, he would have known I went back to my answering machine because there was a problem with voicemail.

I am about to write a letter to the FCC, or whoever has control over Optimum to see if they can get any action. Something really needs to be done.
